Job Guillaume

1999°

Master Fine Arts

“We have shifted into a world of extravagance, tastelessness, aesthetic fetishism, nauseating luxury, rigid similarity and mediatised fads; reality has gone digital, has become idealized. My history and love are superficial. Empirical truths denied by my president and my mother. I am but coded, bits and pieces commodified.“   -You, -Me, -Everybody.

Job Guillaume is an Antwerp-based painter. His paintings are the product of the confrontations one tacitly acquiesces to when entering the digital world. His work is a question, an enquiry, a storybook, a poem, lied truths and correct lies; rarely an answer. The world has become digital, borders have seeped away (or as it turns out; not?). Love, war, politics, glamour, food, cats… it is a new day-to-day reality ; ‘’The lies I paint, the truths I paint, the ambiguous I paint.’’
