presenting Maria Anchugova
‘Hyphae is a project about the different storylines on migration situated between the artist’s birthplace, Crimea, and her living place at the time of production, the Waasland region in Belgium. The drawings, images and several stand-alone texts curated within the bounds of a riso-printed publication seek to generate many possible interpretations and open up the imagination of the reader. Maria mixes auto-ethnographic exploration, psychogeography and potential ancient histories to delve into the notion of belonging as well as the possible ties between peoples and places. The ephemerality of riso-prints hints at notions of lost archives and all the sources of knowledge that may have been lost in time.’
